Singer Aretha Louise Franklin was born in Memphis, Tennessee on March 25, 1942. In the beginning, Aretha started out singing gospel music, and in 1987 she became the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
Just like I’m often called the “King of Online Dating”, Aretha’s been called the “Queen Of Soul".
Surprisingly, although many of her singles enjoyed top 20... top 10... and even top 5 positions over the years, Aretha’s only had two songs make it to the number ONE position on the Billboard Top 100.
One of these songs was "Respect", which came out in 1967.
What you may not know, is that “Respect” was actually written by Otis Redding, in 1965. Otis was most famous for his hit song, “Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay.” Redding originally wrote the song as a plea for respect and recognition from a specific woman, but when Franklin reversed the roles, the song exploded all over the airwaves.
If you remember, the chorus of the song went like this:

One of the EASIEST ways to get respect from a woman, is by letting her know YOU respect YOURSELF!
After all, if you don’t respect yourself, why should anyone else?
And one of the easiest ways of showing a woman - ANY woman - you respect yourself, is by the way you present yourself in your appearance.
