The Ride Of My Life
For a Valentine's Day gift, my girlfriend who I met using Chet's Online Dating System wanted to do something different for me. Anybody that knows me, knows how hard it is to surprise me with a gift or to do something for me I don't already have or haven't already experienced.
You know the type of person I'm talking about, don't you? The one who has everything or if they want something they just go out and get it or do it.
So, she surprises me with a hot air balloon ride. Now this is something I had never done even though I had thought about it before. I love an adventurous and creative woman who loves to please her man, don't you?
We are scheduled to go on the ride at 6:30 in the morning, which means I have to get up earlier than I already do. The hot air balloon company always calls you the night before to let you know if it's a go or not. By that I mean, if the weather is going to be windy or bad they have to cancel your flight.
Well, after getting prepared to make the flight it gets canceled 5 different times over a 2 month period. So, it's getting all pumped up and ready to go do something I haven't done before only to have the disappointment of not being able to.
Finally, the morning comes that we get to go on the hot air balloon Ride, which to be truthful I was wondering if it was ever going to happen.
We meet at a strip mall parking lot, get into a van with a couple of other strangers and the balloon pilot drives us to an open field.
The pilot doesn't like the looks of this location so we drive to another field a few miles away. Once there, he starts to work his proven system.
Behind his van he is pulling a trailer with the hot air balloon and basket. He goes through a series of precise steps to connect the balloon to the basket.
First he has a couple of trained helpers stretch out the balloon. Then they have an oversized portable fan with a gas motor which starts to blow air into the balloon.
As the balloon fills up with air they connect the balloon to the basket. In the basket are 2 helium tanks which they light up. Kind of like the propane gas flames on a gas barbeque grill.
The pilot has the other couple, my girlfriend and I climb into the four by five foot basket with him. Now this may sound crowded to you but you're not moving around as you stand up the whole time.
The pilot turns up the helium flame and we have lift off. He controls the balloon with the wind and by adding more hot air, which comes from the helium flames blown up towards the top of the balloon
Once we're up in the sky and drifting over the ground below us at a height of between 40 to 80 feet the wind does the rest. All the pilot does is turn up the hot air as needed. When we start to go down some he just turns up the hot air.
Now here is where it gets interesting. As we're drifting over the city below us I'm seeing the city in a totally different way than I had ever imagined before. I can see so much more at one time than I ever have before. Things I never had the chance to see are now plain as day. It's fascinating. It was the ride of my life.
Here's why...
Everything is much more visible because I'm now seeing everything from a different angle than I've ever been before. Everything looks totally different than when I drive in my car through the same neighborhoods.
I can see so much more due to the height angles. The view is not blocked by houses and trees. I saw four wild deer running through someone's back yard. I saw different species of exotic birds and other wildlife I never had the chance to see. I saw a bunch of lakes that were hidden, never visible to my eyes and how they were laid out. Views I never had the chance to see when riding around in my boat.
The ride was not anything like I expected. It was not rough, bumpy or out of control. The pilot had command of the balloon at all times.
The landing was extremely soft and smooth. Once we landed in an open field the crew who had been following us in the van was radioed and came to picked us up.
They let the air out, folded up the balloon and put away the equipment. The pilot pulled out a bottle of champagne and poured us a drink. He then told us a story about the history of balloons. We had a toast and were driven back to our cars and let out. We'll never view the world the same again.

First off, I found an adventurous girlfriend who wanted to please me and do something different and outside her comfort zone. She is petrified of heights. Riding in a plane scares the hell out of her to where she gets physically ill. I myself get sick whenever I get on rides at amusement parks. She had been assured by the pilot that her fear of heights would not be a factor on this ride.
I got to experience something I had been thinking about doing but never got around to it because I was too busy doing other things. Once the opportunity was presented to me, I jumped on it.
I could have blown it off because the flight was postponed 5 times. Each time I said it didn't happen today so I'll prepare for the next opportunity. I found out the record for postponements was 13 times by another couple. We were persistent and didn't lose our desire to enjoy this experience.
I got up early to make the time to experience something I wanted to experience. The same as you making the time in your day to experience what you desire to have.
I went and met people I didn't know and enjoyed their company. Learning about them and who they are and what they like to do by asking questions, while being friendly.
Whenever I meet strangers, whether it's men or women, I act as though I've known them my whole life and talk with them like a curious playful friend.
When the flight was canceled 5 times I did NOT give up even though I was disappointed. I kept trying to do it again and again until I finally got what I wanted. Never let a setback stop you from reaching your goals. It's only a temporary setback unless YOU decide otherwise. I kept the faith that it was going to happen if I was persistent.
I found an expert with a lot of experience, a proven track record and a proven system to show me how to get the experience I desired.
Now that I have the experience of actually doing it I can see how easy it is to do on a daily basis. The pilot became an expert by taking lessons and practicing.
The pilot didn't like the location of the first place he wanted to lift off from. So instead of quitting he found a better option.
